KOSDAQ Plunges Nearly 2% on Foreign and Institutional Selling, Falls Below 800 Points
The KOSDAQ plunged by nearly 2%, falling below the 800-point mark, as both foreign investors and institutions became net sellers.
On August 18, the KOSDAQ closed at 799.59, down 15.67 points (1.92%) from the previous trading day.
The KOSDAQ opened at 811.52, a decrease of 0.46% compared to the previous session. It continued to decline throughout the day, dropping by nearly 2% as net selling by foreign investors and institutions intensified.
By investor type, foreign investors and institutions recorded net sales of 61.6 billion won and 102.3 billion won, respectively. In contrast, individual investors were net buyers, purchasing 172.4 billion won.
By sector, other manufacturing plunged 3.92%, while machinery and equipment, medical and precision, chemicals, electrical and electronics, textiles and apparel, and pharmaceuticals all fell by more than 2%. On the other hand, non-metallics and publishing and media reproduction posted slight gains.
Among large-cap stocks, Alteogen traded at 438,000 won, up 1,000 won (0.23%) from the previous session. Additionally, ABL Bio is up 2.97%.

In contrast, Peptron has plunged 7.50%, while HLB, Hugel, and Ecopro have each dropped by more than 3%. Pharmaresearch and Legochem Bio are also down by more than 2%.
