"The three generations of Hyundai Motor Group leadership-Chung Ju-yung, Chung Mong-koo, and Chung Euisun-played a pivotal role in rebuilding the nation from the devastation of the Korean War and transforming it into a global powerhouse in manufacturing and the automotive industry."
Hyundai Motor Group's founder Chung Ju-yung, Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo, and Chairman Chung Euisun have been recognized as individuals who have exerted profound influence on the global automotive industry.
On August 18, Automotive News, a leading U.S. automotive media outlet, announced that it had selected the three generations of Hyundai Motor Group leadership as recipients of its "Centennial Awards," commemorating the publication's 100th anniversary.
Automotive News featured the Hyundai Motor Group leadership trio in a special article titled, "Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Euisun Elevates Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis to New Heights, Building on Family Legacy," highlighting their achievements in detail.
The publication noted, "Founder Chung Ju-yung built a vast enterprise under the Hyundai name, spanning industries from shipbuilding to semiconductors. Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo strengthened quality and expanded into global markets, turning Hyundai Motor Group into a world-class company. Chairman Chung Euisun enhanced the brand value of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis by cultivating a sophisticated and innovative image."
It further emphasized, "When Chung Euisun became Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group in 2020, he did not simply ascend to the top of a global automotive company. He inherited the grand vision, indomitable spirit, and relentless drive for innovation that Founder Chung Ju-yung and Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo had built over decades."
The article continued, "Chairman Chung transformed Hyundai Motor Group from a 'fast follower' of the past into a true leader in design, quality, and technology, elevating the group to a new level. Under his leadership, Hyundai Motor Group has established itself as a frontrunner in electric vehicles, motorsports, and safety, while also venturing into new fields such as robotics and advanced air mobility (AAM)."
Additionally, the publication provided an in-depth look at how Founder Chung Ju-yung started with a construction company, went on to establish Hyundai Motor, and built a shipyard. It also detailed how Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo acquired Kia, launched Hyundai Motor Group, improved quality, strengthened research and development (R&D), and, through global management, developed a worldwide production and sales system, growing the company into a global automotive powerhouse.
Chairman Chung Euisun stated, "My grandfather, Founder Chung Ju-yung, always said we must keep up with the times and placed great importance on people. He firmly believed that customers determine our future, and that listening and responding to their voices is our mission. His customer-centric management philosophy has become the foundation of Hyundai Motor Group's core values. I have naturally learned that we must not fear new challenges and must earn the trust of our customers."
He added, "My father, Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo, constantly sought out growth opportunities in global markets, whether advanced or emerging, and achieved remarkable success. His commitment to quality, safety, and R&D is deeply embedded in Hyundai Motor Group's management philosophy."
Chairman Chung continued, "Innovation must be oriented toward humanity, and true progress is meaningful only when it improves people's lives. Hyundai Motor Group will continue its journey of innovation for a prosperous life for humanity and for the planet, through creative and sustainable customer-centric solutions."
Chung Euisun is scheduled to attend the "Automotive News Congress" in Detroit, United States, in September, where he will receive the Centennial Award and participate in a roundtable discussion with K.C. Crain, CEO of Automotive News.
