Court Cites Defendant's Remorse and Other Considerations
A man in his twenties has been found guilty after leaving his pet reptiles unattended at home for an extended period, resulting in a significant number starving to death.
On August 17, the Cheongju District Court Criminal Division 3 (Presiding Judge Ji Yunseop) announced that it had sentenced Mr. A (22), who was charged with violating the Animal Protection Act, to a fine of 4 million won.
Mr. A, who was keeping 232 lizards and 19 snakes in a villa in Cheongju, is accused of neglecting to feed them for about two months from September last year, causing 95 of them (80 lizards and 15 snakes) to starve to death.
It is known that Mr. A left for another region to work and took no measures for the animals' care.
