Kim Dongyeon Visits Uiwang Construction Site: "Let's Overcome the Stigma of a Backward Industrial Accident-Prone Nation"
Gyeonggi Province Governor Dongyeon Kim visited a construction site on August 14 to promote the prevention of industrial accidents.
After touring the construction site of a neighborhood living facility (1 basement floor, 4 above-ground floors) in Hakik-dong, Uiwang City, Governor Kim stated, "President Lee Jaemyung has emphasized safety at industrial sites, so I came here with the determination for Gyeonggi Province to take the lead as the primary partner in national governance."
Previously, President Lee Jaemyung, immediately after returning from vacation, declared, "Industrial accidents or damages caused by attempts to cut costs are tantamount to murder by willful negligence," and added, "This time, we will fundamentally reform our backward industrial accident-prone nation."
Governor Kim stressed that one way to shed the reputation of being an 'industrial accident-prone nation' is to actively utilize the 'right to stop work' as stipulated in the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
He suggested, "If any risk factors are detected, I hope employers will cooperate so that the 'right to stop work' can be properly exercised at workplaces in Gyeonggi Province, allowing work to be halted immediately."

However, since the authority of labor inspectors is currently a central government power, it is necessary to transfer or delegate this authority to local governments in order to achieve effective results.
