KNA Launches "Korea Protected by Nurses" Campaign to Mark Liberation Day
Campaign to Honor the Names Protected by Nursing,
Safeguarding the Nation Through Devotion
The Korean Nurses Association (KNA) announced on August 14 that it will launch a large-scale campaign and a joint radio production series under the slogan "Lives Protected by Nurses, Korea Protected by Devotion" to mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation. The initiative aims to honor the contributions of nurses who dedicated themselves to the independence movement and to restore the honor of independence activist nurses who have not yet been officially recognized by the government.
The KNA has identified 74 nurses who participated in the anti-Japanese resistance during the Japanese colonial period, of whom 58 have received government recognition so far. The remaining 16 are still unrecognized. Through this campaign, the association plans to urge the government to honor these individuals, with public participation as a driving force.
To participate in the campaign, individuals can scan a QR code to access campaign images or materials, write messages urging official recognition and commemorating the nurses, and post them on social networking services (SNS) with the required hashtags. Participation can be further spread by nominating friends or followers in a relay format.
Additionally, the KNA will jointly produce "Caring for Korea" Season 2 with YTN Radio for one year, from September 2025 to August 2026. The program will feature the stories of 15 independence activist nurses, each presented in a 120-second storytelling segment, broadcast three times a day.
