Strengthening Preparedness for Heatwaves and Heavy Rain
Jin Byungyoung, the Governor of Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province, visited Naegok, Jungchon, and Bonbaek villages in Hamyang-eup in succession to hold an 'On-site Village Meeting,' where he inspected the operation of cooling shelters and checked flood damage sites.
According to Hamyang County on August 14, at Naegok Village, Governor Jin reviewed the status of small-scale water resource development and minor stream maintenance, and discussed the need for projects to improve living conditions. At Jungchon Village, he inspected drainage and farm road maintenance sites and listened to suggestions regarding the installation of cooling shelters and collection facilities for agricultural waste vinyl.
At Bonbaek Village, which he visited next, Governor Jin checked the completion site of a small-scale water resource development project and discussed with residents the damage caused by drainage backflow during the heavy rainfall in July, as well as the need to improve drainage facilities in response.
During the meeting, Governor Jin briefed residents on the progress of recovery efforts following the designation of the area as a special disaster zone and on the government's indirect support measures. He also provided detailed explanations regarding disaster preparedness, including the strengthening of cooling shelter operations, expanding care for vulnerable groups, and conducting preemptive inspections of rivers and drainage systems, in response to recent extreme heatwaves and heavy rainfall.
