Mayor Seong said, "We welcome Sogang University's establishment of an innovation hub in Seongnam Pangyo, expanding beyond Seoul. This campus will become a core base for leading future high-tech industries. By actively supporting the cultivation of industry-specific talent and promoting collaboration among industry, academia, and research, we will elevate Seongnam to become Korea's premier global innovation city."

More than 30 people, including Mayor Seong and Sogang University President Shim Jonghyuk, attended the event to celebrate the campus opening.

The Sogang University Pangyo Digital Innovation Campus occupies the 3rd to 6th floors of Widen Tower (56 Geumto-ro 80beon-gil), Sujeong-gu, covering approximately 10,280 square meters. Located at a prime site within the 2nd Pangyo Techno Valley, it will serve as a comprehensive industry-academia-research hub that combines research, education, and startup functions in system semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI). The campus will focus on practical education and joint research through industry-academia joint research institutes, contract-based departments, and startup support teams, systematically cultivating professionals with the expertise demanded by the industry.

The facilities available for occupancy include startup spaces (3rd, 5th, and 6th floors) used by startups, accelerators, and the Fabless Industry Association; industry-academia education facilities (4th floor) consisting of support spaces for small and medium-sized venture companies, a startup lounge, and a co-working zone; and industry-academia joint research labs (5th floor) housing the ICC Industry-Academia Joint Research Center, which involves school and corporate research institutes as well as related startups.

Since July, Seongnam City has been operating a "Global Semiconductor Design Expert Program" with Sogang University at this campus, nurturing semiconductor design professionals through field-oriented education. The city is also attracting Korea's top research institutions, such as the Pangyo KAIST AI Education and Research Facility and the Sungkyunkwan University Fabless AI Research Center. In addition, policies such as the opening of the System Semiconductor Development Support Center and operation of the Fabless Alliance are helping Seongnam emerge as a core technology city based on the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
