[Tomorrow's Weather] Heavy Rain Centered in Central Regions... Torrential Downpours in the Seoul Metropolitan Area
Heavy rainfall is expected to be concentrated in the central regions between August 13 and 14.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on August 12, rain is forecast nationwide on Wednesday, August 13. In the Seoul metropolitan area and the five West Sea islands, 50 to 120 mm of rain is expected over the two-day period starting August 13. Some areas, including Incheon, the five West Sea islands, and northern Gyeonggi Province, may see rainfall exceeding 150 mm.
Inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province are expected to receive 30 to 100 mm of rain, with some central and northern inland areas possibly seeing more than 120 mm. On the east coast, northern Gangwon's east coast is forecast to receive 10 to 40 mm, while the central and southern east coast of Gangwon may see 5 to 20 mm of rain.
Northern Chungcheongnam-do, central and northern Chungcheongbuk-do are forecast to receive 30 to 80 mm of rain, with some northern Chungcheongnam-do areas possibly exceeding 100 mm. Daejeon, Sejong, southern Chungcheongnam-do, and southern Chungcheongbuk-do are expected to see 20 to 60 mm. Gwangju and Jeollanam-do are forecast for 20 to 80 mm (with some coastal areas of Jeollanam-do possibly exceeding 100 mm), mountainous areas of Jeju Island 20 to 60 mm, and Jeollabuk-do, Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongsangnam-do, Daegu, and Gyeongsangbuk-do 10 to 60 mm (with the southern coast of Gyeongsangnam-do possibly exceeding 80 mm). Jeju Island, excluding mountainous areas, is expected to receive 5 to 20 mm, while Ulleungdo and Dokdo are forecast for 5 to 10 mm of rain.
There may also be periods of torrential downpours. In the Seoul metropolitan area, including Incheon, northern Gyeonggi Province, and the five West Sea islands, rainfall rates of 30 to 50 mm per hour are expected from the morning of August 13 to the early morning of August 14, with around 30 mm per hour on the morning of August 14. In Seoul and southern Gyeonggi Province, hourly rainfall of 30 to 50 mm is expected from the night of August 13 to the early morning of August 14, and around 30 mm per hour from the morning to afternoon of August 13 and the morning of August 14.
Additionally, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province are expected to see around 30 mm per hour from the afternoon of August 13 to the morning of August 14. The western coast of northern Chungcheongnam-do may experience similar rates from the early morning to morning of August 13, and northern Chungcheongnam-do in the early morning of August 14. Along the west coast and in the central inland regions, strong gusts with instantaneous wind speeds of around 55 km/h (15 m/s) are also expected to accompany the rain.
