From Midnight on the 21st, 11 Bus Routes to Be Diverted

Starting from August 17, when demolition work begins at Seosomun Overpass, bus routes will be temporarily diverted.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on August 12 that, due to the closure of one lane from City Hall toward Chungjeongno starting at midnight on August 17, a total of 20 metropolitan bus routes?9 from Gyeonggi Province and 11 from Incheon?will be the first to be diverted.

The 9 Gyeonggi Province routes will be diverted using a total of 4 alternative routes, including Tongil-ro, Sajik-ro, Sejong-daero, and Saemunan-ro. The 11 Incheon routes will operate on routes that turn around at stations such as Hongdae Entrance Station, Sinchon Station, and Dangsan Station.

From midnight on August 21, when Seosomun Overpass is fully closed, 11 Seoul city bus routes?including trunk, branch, and late-night buses?will also be diverted. Of these, 5 routes such as 172 and 472, which previously passed through Seosomun Overpass in both directions, will be diverted via Chungjeongno, Tongil-ro, and Sejong-daero. Two routes, including 600 and 602, which previously passed through the overpass in one direction, will be diverted via Sejong-daero, Tongil-ro, and Chungjeongno.

Depending on changes in the traffic system or road conditions, the timing, routes, and paths of these diversions may be adjusted.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has established a traffic management task force that includes the police, district offices, and external traffic experts, and will operate it until traffic conditions stabilize after the demolition of Seosomun Overpass.

Yeo Jangkwon, Director of Transportation at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated, "As traffic congestion is expected in the vicinity during the construction period, we urge citizens to use alternative transportation such as the subway," and added, "We will mobilize all administrative resources to minimize inconvenience to citizens caused by traffic congestion."
