View original imageLee Byunghoon, former lawmaker from Gwangju, Kim Sung, head of Jangheung County in Jeonnam, and Lee Wontae, lawmaker from Jeonbuk, have been nominated as Senior Vice Chairpersons of the Honam Development Special Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea.
Seo Samsuk, Chairman of the Honam Development Special Committee (Supreme Council Member) of the Democratic Party, announced on the 11th through a media notice that Lee Byunghoon, former National Assembly member, Kim Sung, head of Jangheung County, and Lee Wontae, lawmaker, have been nominated as Senior Vice Chairpersons of the committee.
Lee Byunghoon, nominated as the Senior Vice Chairperson for the Gwangju region, is recognized as a proven regional policy expert, having served as Vice Mayor for Culture and Economy of Gwangju and as a member of the 21st National Assembly (Gwangju Dongnam-eul).
Kim Sung, who will serve as the Senior Vice Chairperson for the Jeonnam region, is currently the chairman of the Jeonnam Mayors and County Governors Association and is expected to effectively convey the region's concerns without reservation.
Lee Wontae, Senior Vice Chairperson, is a two-term lawmaker representing Gunsan, Gimje, and Buan in Jeonbuk, currently serving as the ruling party secretary of the National Assembly's Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans and Fisheries Committee. He is also regarded as an expert in regional development, having previously served as Vice Governor of Jeonbuk and as an administrative officer for local autonomy and development at the Blue House.
The Honam Development Special Committee will be composed of approximately 15 members from each metropolitan area, including politicians and local government heads active in the region, as well as field experts from academia and civil society organizations. The committee is scheduled to launch within this month.
