View original imageThe 'Iksan Sweet Potato Mozzarella Burger and Muffin' is the fifth menu item in McDonald's Korea's 'Taste of Korea' campaign. The product features a unique flavor profile, combining soft and sweet Iksan sweet potatoes with savory mozzarella cheese and a spicy jalapeno mayo sauce.
This project involved close cooperation among Iksan City, McDonald's Korea, and three Topmaru producer organizations (Samgi Nonghyup, Gogumasarang Co., and Iksan Wonhyup). A total of 200 tons of sweet potatoes from Iksan were used, with Samgi Nonghyup supplying 53% of the total volume through active participation. Gogumasarang Co. consistently provided raw materials until May, preventing production disruptions and highlighting the role of each organization.
During the sales period, the city held a Hometown Love Donation event, offering a mobile coupon for an 'Iksan Sweet Potato Mozzarella Burger Set' to donors who contributed 100,000 won or more. As a result, approximately 200 million won in donations was collected. Online and on social networking services (SNS), positive responses continued, with comments such as "Proud of Iksan sweet potatoes" and "A great example of promoting local agricultural products."
Building on this success, the city plans to further expand the supply and distribution network for sweet potatoes. Efforts will focus on strengthening cooperation with distribution channels such as large supermarkets and online marketplaces, as well as pursuing the re-release of products like hamburgers.
