SK Telecom's Market Share Remains Below 40% for Second Consecutive Month... 39% in June
Subscriber Exodus Following Hacking Incident
Number of MVNO Subscribers Surpasses 10 Million for the First Time
SK Telecom's market share in the mobile telecommunications market for June stood at 39%, remaining below 40% for the second consecutive month. This was due to continued subscriber departures following the hacking incident in April.
According to the Ministry of Science and ICT's announcement on August 8 regarding the "Status of Wired and Wireless Communication Service Subscriptions and Wireless Data Traffic Statistics for June," SK Telecom had 22,350,670 subscribers, accounting for 39% of the total mobile subscribers (57,303,514).
This represents a decrease of 0.29 percentage points from May, when the market share was 39.29% due to subscriber churn.
KT and LG Uplus, which benefited from the situation, recorded 13,661,813 subscribers (23.84%) and 11,180,347 subscribers (19.51%), respectively. Their market shares increased by 0.07 percentage points and 0.06 percentage points compared to May.
The number of MVNO subscribers reached 10,110,684 (17.64%), surpassing 10 million for the first time.
