"Drawing Jeju, Drawing with Jeju" Wins Grand Prize at Korea Digital Publishing Awards
Announcement of Four Award-Winning Works by the Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency
Grand Prize: Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and 10 Million KRW
The Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency has announced the four winners of the 12th Korea Digital Publishing Awards, including "Drawing Jeju, Drawing with Jeju," through the agency's and the E-book Baro Center's official websites.
A total of 304 digital publications were submitted for this competition. After a final round of judging, four works were selected as winners: one Grand Prize winner (Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and a prize of 10 million KRW) and three Excellence Award winners (Agency President's Award and a prize of 5 million KRW each).
The Grand Prize-winning work, "Drawing Jeju, Drawing with Jeju," is an essay introducing the nature and everyday culture of Jeju. The author, a native of Jeju and an illustrator, personally drew scenes of Jeju, which were enhanced with animation effects and actual sounds from Jeju to create a video content. This innovative approach received high praise from the judges.
The three works selected for the Excellence Award are as follows. "Gyeongbokgung with Imaginary Animals" (National Heritage Promotion Agency) is an interactive multi-content work that combines story-based game elements and auto-play features, using the buildings of Gyeongbokgung Palace and imaginary animals as its subjects. "Chunhyangjeon: Imyeongseon Edition, Complete and Annotated Translation" (Communication Books) leverages the strengths of digital publishing by translating the Imyeongseon edition?one of the classic versions of "Chunhyangjeon"?into modern Korean and adding over 2,800 detailed annotations. "Faust" (Hyundae Jiseong) is the first digital publication in Korea to present Goethe's masterpiece in a format that allows for complete reading.
The judging process was based on criteria such as planning and technical merit, with additional points awarded for accessibility for people with disabilities, using a quantitative evaluation method. The panel of judges stated, "A diverse range of digital publications with strong planning, technical merit, content quality, and expertise were selected. We look forward to seeing more high-quality content reflecting creative attempts in the future."
