Gwangju City to Survey Citizens on Renaming Five Parks in Ssangdong 1 and 4 Districts
Gwangju City to Conduct Public Survey on Preferred Names
for Five New Parks in Ssangdong Districts
Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on August 7 that it will conduct a public survey on preferred names for five parks currently being developed within the district unit planning areas of Ssangdong 1 District (Halla Valdi) and Ssangdong 4 District (Hillstate) in Chowol-eup. The survey will be held from August 11 to 13 and is open to all citizens.
This survey is based on the results of a naming contest held from August 1 to 7. After filtering out candidates that included slang, jargon, plagiarism, or duplication, the survey will proceed with the remaining suitable names.
The urban parks in Ssangdong 1 and 4 Districts are currently referred to by administrative convenience names such as 'Ssangdong 1 Park' and 'Ssangdong 4 Park.' However, there have been ongoing concerns that these names could cause confusion for future park users. In response, the city decided to conduct this preference survey to select park names that are more familiar and emotionally resonant with citizens.
The survey targets a total of five parks: three in Ssangdong 1 District and two in Ssangdong 4 District. Any Gwangju citizen can participate through the 'Citizen Participation Plaza' on the official Gwangju City Hall website.
Based on the survey results, the city will select the most preferred names and announce the final choices on the official Gwangju City website during August.
