Special Zone Foundation to Support Local Commercialization of Deep Tech Companies through North America and Europe Cluster Collaboration
The Research and Development Special Zone Promotion Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Special Zone Foundation) announced on August 6 that it will launch the "2025 Global Cluster R&BD Project" to support joint research and development (R&D) and local commercialization of deep tech companies in connection with global clusters in North America and Europe.

The project budget is set at 3 billion KRW per project (for 1 year and 6 months), and it will be implemented simultaneously in North America and Europe.
In particular, this project is designed not only to facilitate overseas market entry through the commercialization of public technologies, but also to establish a sustainable "global deep tech commercialization collaboration platform" by connecting with clusters in North America and Europe.
To this end, the Special Zone Foundation has discussed cluster cooperation measures with officials from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the United States and the European Union (EU) from the planning stage.
The project will carry out one global cooperation initiative each in the semiconductor and bio sectors, focusing on combining domestic technological capabilities with joint research with overseas clusters to enhance local technology verification (PoC) and commercialization potential.
In the semiconductor sector, the North American project will be led by the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), with participation from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Ytech Co. This initiative will focus on the development and demonstration of semiconductor components and switch modules for aerospace and electric vehicles, collaborating with the University of Florida, NSF Engine, IMEC, BRIDG, and NeoCity Links to conduct local demonstrations and connect with potential client companies in the United States.
In the bio sector, the European project will be led by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, with participation from Curebus. The project aims to develop new drugs for central nervous system disorders, working in collaboration with Angelini Pharma in Italy to jointly conduct all stages from full clinical validation and clinical design to the establishment of commercialization strategies.
