Yeongam County Maintains Lifelong Learning City Status Until 2028
Passed Ministry of Education’s Re-designation Evaluation
“Proven Achievements in Guaranteeing Learning Rights”
Yeongam County in South Jeolla Province has passed the Ministry of Education's lifelong learning city re-designation evaluation, allowing it to maintain this status until 2028. As a result, the county has secured eligibility to apply for future lifelong learning-related public projects and has established a stable foundation for such initiatives.
The county announced on the 5th that it had passed the '2025 Lifelong Learning City Re-designation Evaluation' with excellent results, an evaluation conducted on July 30 for 46 local governments nationwide.
The lifelong learning city re-designation evaluation is a system introduced in 2020. It is conducted every three years for local governments that have held lifelong learning city status for more than four years.
Since its initial designation in 2007, the county has successfully passed both the first evaluation in 2022 and the second evaluation in 2024, thereby maintaining its lifelong learning city status until 2028. This year's evaluation focused on three main areas: implementation system, project operation, and achievements. Yeongam County received high marks for establishing mid- to long-term development plans, building a performance management system, providing customized courses for learners, and operating programs for all age groups.
In particular, the county's policy efforts to ensure accessibility and learning rights for residents have been recognized as tangible achievements, reaffirming its potential as a region-centered lifelong learning model.
