View original imageAccording to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on August 5, the average temperature in Gwangju and Jeonnam last month was 27.8 degrees Celsius, ranking second highest ever after 1994 (28.0 degrees). This is 2.8 degrees higher than the average year and 1.2 degrees higher than last year.
During early and late July, the region experienced clear and hot weather due to the influence of the North Pacific High and the Tibetan High. The average temperatures during these periods were 28.4 degrees and 28.7 degrees, respectively, ranking first and second highest on record. In mid-July, the average temperature was relatively lower due to heavy rainfall.
The average number of heatwave days was 15.6, which is 13 days more than the average year and the second highest after 1994 (16.3 days). In Gwangju, heatwaves lasted for a total of 18 days during two periods: July 5?12 and July 22?31. Wando (22 days), Goheung (20 days), and Haenam (14 days) all broke their previous records for the highest number of heatwave days in July since observations began.
The average number of tropical nights in Gwangju and Jeonnam in July was 11.7, the second highest on record after 2024 (13.1 days). In particular, Mokpo recorded 21 tropical nights, the highest number since observations began in 1904.

Precipitation in July was 230.4 mm, which is similar to the average year (259.4 mm). However, 213.2 mm, or 92% of the total, fell during the middle of the month (July 16?20). In Gwangju, a record-breaking daily rainfall of 426.4 mm was recorded on July 17.
