View original imageThe Presidential Office stated on August 5 that “necessary communications between the authorities are ongoing” regarding the possibility of a meeting between President Lee Jaemyung and Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru.
On this day, President Lee explained in a notice to the press corps, “The leaders of both countries confirmed their intention to resume shuttle diplomacy through a phone call and a summit last month.”
However, regarding reports that President Lee would visit Japan for a summit after the South Korea-US summit, he stated, “That is not true.”
Previously, on June 9, President Lee held his first phone call with Prime Minister Ishiba since taking office, and on June 17, they met on the occasion of the Group of Seven (G7) Summit held in Canada.

Meanwhile, on August 4, Presidential Office spokesperson Kang Yujeong commented on the prospect that the South Korea-US and South Korea-Japan summits could be held consecutively, stating, “There are no stories that have reached maturity.”
