CU Sees 10% Daily Sales Increase in Two Weeks of Consumption Coupon... Expands Discounts on Ramen and Instant Rice
Double-Digit Sales Growth Year-on-Year
Cup Ramen for 800 Won Each, Instant Rice for 600 Won
Enhanced Benefits on Popular Items Targeting Convenience Store Grocery Shoppers
BGF Retail announced on August 5 that the average daily sales at its convenience store chain CU increased by about 10% year-on-year during the two weeks from July 21, when the Minsheng Recovery Consumption Coupon was distributed, to August 3.
The company analyzed that the sales growth rate was higher than average in residential areas such as family housing complexes (17.6%) and villa neighborhoods (15.8%), indicating that the consumption coupon had a positive effect on revitalizing the local economy.
According to CU's analysis of sales by product category in the month before and after the distribution of the consumption coupon, the growth rates were as follows: instant rice 41.9%, ramen 37.6%, health foods 35.2%, ice cream 35.1%, fruit 34.3%, and alcoholic beverages 21.5%.
In response to this increased demand for grocery shopping at convenience stores, CU announced that it will expand discounts on popular items this month to enhance real purchasing benefits for consumers. One of the main promotions is a special ramen discount event. Until August 15, customers can receive a 33% discount when purchasing popular ramen products in bundles. For example, a bundle of 15 Nongshim Shin Ramyun small cups is priced at 12,500 won, and a bundle of 6 Saewootang or Twigim Udon small cups is priced at 5,000 won, making the price per cup about 800 won. For eight types of bibim-myeon, which are in high demand during the summer, customers can purchase them for 750 won each when buying 10 or more through a mix-and-match promotion.
Instant rice bundle products are also available at a minimum price in the 600-won range per unit for a month when purchased in bundles, with additional discounts available through affiliated card promotions. Bundle discounts and '1+1' free gift promotions are also being offered on canned beer, large-capacity beer, bottled beer, Chamisul PET soju, and ice cream. In addition, small-pack fruit, health functional foods, and private brand (PB) products have also been added to the list of discounted items.

A BGF Retail representative said, "After the distribution of the consumption coupon, sales of daily necessities at convenience stores have increased significantly, so we have prepared large-scale discount events focused on product categories where customer demand is expected to grow further this month. We will continue to introduce highly competitive products and promotions that benefit both consumers and franchise owners."
