"Life and Safety First"... Busan Port Pledges Joint Response to Safety Accidents
In response to a series of recent accidents at port sites, related organizations and industry representatives at Busan Port have pledged to take joint action.
On the morning of July 30, Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Song Sangkeun) announced that it held a 'Joint Resolution Meeting for the Protection of Workers' Lives and the Enhancement of Port Safety' at the Busan New Port branch office.
This resolution meeting was held prior to the '3rd Busan Port Operational Competitiveness Enhancement Council.' The resolution included six key tasks: establishing the principle of prioritizing workers' lives and safety, strengthening the collaboration system among the private sector, government, and public institutions, carrying out field-oriented preventive activities, expanding worker participation, providing tailored education programs, and establishing a sustainable safety culture.
The resolution was signed by Kim Youngdeuk, Chairman of the Busan Port Industry Federation, Kim Sehyun, Head of the Busan Office of the Korea Shipping Association, Kim Hongdong, Chairman of the Busan Port Logistics Association, and Song Sangkeun, President of BPA. Representatives of terminal operating companies were also present, expressing their commitment to joint action.
During the subsequent Operational Competitiveness Enhancement Council, discussions focused on revising safety management standards and formulating practical measures to prevent the recurrence of accidents.

President Song Sangkeun stated, "I deeply mourn the unfortunate losses caused by recent safety accidents," and added, "To prevent similar incidents from happening again, we will further strengthen institutional improvements and on-site response capabilities in cooperation with related organizations and the industry."
A joint resolution meeting is being held to realize a people-centered safe workplace at Busan Port.
