Kick-off Meeting Held for 'Pohang-style Unique Venue Master Plan'
MICE Strategy Based on Resources and Identity... Discovering Distinctive Spaces
Pohang City has officially begun the creation of the 'Pohang-style Unique Venue (PUV)' to strengthen the competitiveness of its future MICE industry.
On the 24th, the city held a kick-off meeting for the '2025 Pohang-style Unique Venue Master Plan Development Service' at the Yeonoseo Room in City Hall, where participants discussed the project's direction and the cooperation system among departments.
'Unique Venue' refers to an original event space that is not a large convention center, but instead boasts the unique characteristics and charm of the city.
Currently, 52 locations nationwide have been designated as 'Korea Unique Venues (KUV)'. In the Gyeongbuk region, four sites are included: the Gyeongju National Museum, Hwangnyongwon, Gyeongju Expo Grand Park, and the Korea Culture Theme Park.
The meeting was attended by Lee Sanghyun, Head of the Tourism and Convention City Promotion Headquarters, as well as 16 participants in total, including officials from related departments such as the city art museum, library, education, tourism, industry, green space, and maritime affairs, along with representatives from the service provider.
Through this service, the city plans to investigate and analyze spaces among the cultural, natural, and industrial resources owned by public institutions, companies, and individuals that can host MICE events, and to specify the identity and development direction of the 'Pohang-style Unique Venue'. In addition, strategies will be developed to obtain designation as a 'Korea Unique Venue' by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
At the meeting, candidate facilities were discussed, including ▲cultural and artistic facilities (Seokgok Memorial Hall, Dongbin Culture Warehouse 1969), ▲industrial base spaces (POSCO Change Up Ground, History Museum), ▲natural resources (Sabang Memorial Park, etc.), and ▲public facilities (Baetmeori Lifelong Education Center, City Art Museum, City Library, etc.). The possibility of linking with private spaces such as large cafes and food and beverage facilities will also be reviewed in the future.
Lee Sanghyun, Head of the Tourism and Convention City Promotion Headquarters, emphasized, "The MICE industry serves as a bridge for city growth, connecting tourism, culture, and industry," adding, "The Pohang-style Unique Venue will become a new city brand that combines the cultural depth and spatial charm of the region."
