View original imageOn July 24, the city of Gwangju carried out volunteer activities at farms in Buk-gu and Gwangsan-gu that were damaged by heavy rainfall.
This volunteer effort was organized to support recovery from damages such as flooded homes, loss of farmland, and destruction of greenhouses caused by the record-breaking downpours that occurred from July 17 to July 19.
On this day, in Yonggang-dong, Buk-gu, about 100 Gwangju City Hall officials voluntarily participated in recovery work, including clearing collapsed structures inside strawberry greenhouses, removing damaged plastic coverings, and collecting soil and debris.
In the Hasandong area of Gwangsan-gu, 43 people?including 13 officials from the Gwangju City Department of Agricultural and Animal Policy and the Western Wholesale Market Management Office, as well as 30 employees from the Nonghyup Gwangju Headquarters?joined the recovery efforts. They visited two greenhouse farms affected by flooding to remove submerged equipment, clear out damaged tiger bean crops, and organize the workspaces.
Bae Gwisuk, head of the Department of Agricultural and Animal Policy, stated, "We decided to volunteer in order to help the affected farms resume their agricultural activities as soon as possible," and added, "We will continue our efforts through ongoing volunteer work and follow-up measures such as pest and disease control to prevent secondary damage."
