Jindo County announced on the 23rd that it held a mid-term evaluation meeting for the "Lithospermum erythrorhizon Stable Production Pilot Project" on the 15th, attended by about 20 people including participating farmers, officials from the Korea Agricultural Technology Promotion Agency, and local farmers interested in Lithospermum erythrorhizon.
This evaluation meeting aimed to establish cultivation models in response to climate change and changes in the agricultural environment, as well as to enhance farmers' technical capabilities. The event focused on practical information exchange, including reports on project progress, explanations of varieties by Lithospermum erythrorhizon breeders, and on-site evaluations.
In particular, the on-site evaluation shared the growth characteristics of the "Daehong" variety, recent cases of major pests and diseases such as leaf blight and thrips, and countermeasures for their control. Customized technical support plans were also presented, focusing on actual cultivation management practices by farmers.
Oh Youngae, Head of Research and Development at the Jindo County Agricultural Technology Center, emphasized, "We will continue to expand field-oriented technical support to respond to climate change and actively promote pilot projects for the stable production and commercialization of Jindo-grown Lithospermum erythrorhizon."
Meanwhile, Jindo County was selected this year for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' "Customized Future Strategy for Regional Specialty Crop Development" public contest, securing a total budget of 200 million won. Based on this, the county plans to accelerate the expansion of the cultivation base for Lithospermum erythrorhizon and support for producing farmers.
