As a result of this heavy rain, Gwangju reported 404 displaced people from 281 households, and a total of 1,311 cases of damage, including flooded roads. The city formed an emergency response team to carry out swift recovery operations.
Mayor Kang visited the sites in Sanwol-dong and Mareuk-dong to listen directly to the concerns of residents, paying particular attention to the seriousness of the damage to agriculture. One tomato farmer expressed his desperation, saying, "A month's worth of farming has been wiped out by this heavy rain."
The city has mobilized about 500 people, including volunteers and soldiers from the 31st Division, who are working hard to restore the flooded areas. The main recovery activities include removing mud, disposing of flood-damaged waste, and organizing household items.
Mayor Kang stated, "We will not only ensure a swift recovery but also establish fundamental disaster prevention measures," adding, "We will actively request the government to designate this area as a special disaster zone and provide special grants."
As of today, 58.1% of the 346 urgent recovery cases have been completed, and the city of Gwangju plans to devote all available resources by deploying additional personnel and equipment to further accelerate recovery efforts.
