Songpa Dementia Relief Center Launches "NEMO Table for My Brain" Program for Dementia Patients
Introducing a Nutrition Program
That "Sticks to Your Brain"
for Dementia Prevention and Management
The Songpa District Public Health Center Dementia Relief Center (headed by Seo Kangseok) in Seoul is launching the "NEMO Table for My Brain" program in earnest to support the increasing number of dementia patients due to population aging.
Dementia patients require customized nutrition management because of reduced nutritional metabolism. In response, the district has introduced brain health nutrition education with a dietitian for the first time among Seoul's autonomous districts.
NEMO is a compound word combining "NEURO," meaning nerve, and "MEMORY." This program is specialized in dementia prevention and cognitive function improvement. In particular, the district utilizes nutrients that are especially beneficial for the brain, such as unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin D, and antioxidants, as part of the education.
The program provides nutrition education and dietary habit improvement tailored to each group (normal group and dementia group), and is designed so that participants can easily learn customized meal plans through thorough analysis of their health status and lifestyle habits. A professional dietitian offers one-on-one counseling and personalized meal guidance. The program also includes hands-on activities, such as making milk bingsu, and participatory events like quizzes to help improve dietary habits.
The program will be offered free of charge for five months from July to November, targeting around 400 people aged 60 and older who are interested in dementia prevention and users of the Dementia Relief Center.
