Environment and Labor Committee Adopts Kim Younghoon's Hearing Report Led by Democratic Party... Kim Sungwhan's Report Passed by Bipartisan Agreement
On July 21, the National Assembly's Environment and Labor Committee adopted the personnel hearing reports for Kim Younghoon, nominee for Minister of Employment and Labor, and Kim Sungwhan, nominee for Minister of Environment.
While the hearing report for Kim Sungwhan, a three-term incumbent lawmaker, was adopted by bipartisan agreement, the report for Kim Younghoon was passed through a vote led by the Democratic Party of Korea, with the People Power Party opposing.

View original imageKim Hyungdong, the People Power Party's secretary on the committee, stated, "We agreed to adopt the report for Minister nominee Kim Sungwhan because we believe our committee should take the lead in protecting the lives and safety of the people," and added, "I expect him to lead the Ministry of Environment well as its head and to play a significant role in ensuring the smooth operation of the government as a cabinet member."
However, regarding Kim Younghoon, he said, "Many members believe he falls significantly short by our party's standards," and added, "Many committee members expressed doubts and concerns about whether he can thoroughly address the current issues facing the labor field as a cabinet member."
