Ministry of Employment and Labor Vows Strict Investigation into Courier Logistics Center Worker Death
The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on July 20 that it is taking strict measures in response to the death of a worker at a courier logistics center in Wonju, Gangwon Province.
The previous day, a courier truck reversed without seeing a worker who was behind the vehicle, resulting in the worker being trapped between the truck and the unloading area and subsequently dying in the accident.
On the day of the accident, the Ministry issued a suspension of all work at the loading and unloading site where the incident occurred, and demanded that the company establish measures to prevent recurrence.
The Ministry is investigating whether there were any violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, and is also examining whether safety measures for workers involved in courier loading and unloading operations were properly implemented. In addition, the Ministry will conduct unannounced inspections at other logistics centers operated by the courier company in different regions.
