Bank of Korea Governor Rhee Changyong to Depart on July 20 to Attend EMEAP Governors' Meeting
Bank of Korea Governor Rhee Changyong will depart for Bangkok, Thailand on July 20 to attend the Executives' Meeting of East Asia and Pacific Central Banks (EMEAP).
The Bank of Korea announced on July 18 that Governor Rhee will leave on July 20 and return on July 23 to participate in the 30th EMEAP Governors' Meeting and the 14th EMEAP Governors and Financial Supervisory Authorities' Meeting.
EMEAP is a cooperative organization established in 1991 to promote collaboration and information exchange among central banks in the East Asia and Pacific region. Currently, its 11 member central banks are from Korea, China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand.
The EMEAP Governors and Financial Supervisory Authorities' Meeting was established following a decision at the 16th EMEAP Governors' Meeting, during which the Bank of Korea served as chair. It was decided to invite the heads of financial supervisory authorities from regional countries that have such institutions separately. As a result, the meeting is attended by representatives from five countries: Korea, China, Japan, Australia, and Indonesia.
Governor Rhee plans to discuss issues such as geoeconomic fragmentation and changes in inflation dynamics with the central bank governors of EMEAP member countries in the East Asia and Pacific region at the EMEAP Governors' Meeting. He will also review the activities of organizations under EMEAP.
