Mokpo City Leads Food Poisoning Prevention with Summer Delivery Food Hygiene Inspections
Focused Inspection on Popular Summer Foods Such as Samgyetang and Naengmyeon
Amid growing concerns over food poisoning accidents due to the recent erratic monsoon rains and recurring heatwaves, Mokpo City in Jeollanam-do has launched a focused hygiene inspection of summer delivery foods.
On July 15, Mokpo City announced that it is inspecting the hygiene management of 20 delivery specialty restaurants and gimbap vendors, including those selling samgyetang and naengmyeon, which see a surge in consumption during the summer.
In particular, restaurants that use eggs as a main ingredient, such as gimbap shops, have been included as key inspection targets due to the heightened risk of food poisoning from Salmonella and other bacteria.
This inspection is a measure to prevent food poisoning accidents and protect public health. A team of six inspectors, including the city's food hygiene team leader, is visiting sites in person to meticulously check the cleanliness of food handling and cooking facilities.
The inspection focuses on hygiene-related aspects such as wearing sanitary hats and masks, health check-ups, the sanitary condition of food and cooking areas, use of ingredients past their consumption date, and the installation of insect screens. If any violations are found, immediate corrective orders and administrative measures will be taken in accordance with the Food Sanitation Act.
The city also urged households to follow daily hygiene guidelines to prevent food poisoning.
A city official stated, "The risk of food poisoning is increasing as temperatures rise in the summer," and emphasized, "Eggs and meat should be thoroughly cooked to the center, and hands should be washed thoroughly before and after cooking. Please make sure to follow these basic preventive measures."
The official added, "Knives and cutting boards should be used separately according to their purpose, and cooked food should be consumed as quickly as possible. Maintaining hygiene at home is also an important way to protect citizens' health."
Meanwhile, the city plans to combine these summer hygiene inspections with a food poisoning prevention campaign, focusing administrative efforts on protecting public health during the heatwave.
