Gwangju Office of Education to Continue Free Lunch Support for Elementary After-School Care Classes During Vacation
The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education will continue to provide free lunches to students attending elementary school after-school care classes during this year's summer vacation.
According to the Office of Education on July 11, this program, which was first introduced last year, was implemented to support the healthy growth of students and to ease the childcare burden on parents. This year, students participating in afternoon care classes during the vacation period at 152 elementary schools in the Gwangju area will be eligible for support.
To reduce the administrative burden on schools, the Office of Education plans to establish a separate pool of contracted lunch box suppliers. Suppliers will be selected through a process of open applications, evaluation, and on-site inspections. Each school can sign contracts using this supplier pool, but may also choose other companies outside of the pool depending on their circumstances.
Superintendent Lee Jungseon stated, "Providing lunches during vacation care classes is a program that supports the healthy growth of students and helps reduce the burden on parents," adding, "We will do our best to ensure the program is operated even more effectively by listening to feedback from the field."
