"No Safety Issues in Urban Railways"... Busan Transportation Corporation Launches 24-Hour Heatwave Response System
In response to the early heatwave that followed the end of the rainy season, the Busan Transportation Corporation has launched a 24-hour heatwave response situation room to protect citizens.
On July 10, the Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byungjin) announced that it would fully implement a comprehensive management plan to respond to the heatwave.
The corporation has already been conducting special inspections to prepare for the heatwave since June 30, and on July 3, held a "Heatwave Response Progress Review Meeting" with department heads from each sector at the headquarters disaster situation room.
The inspections cover temperature control inside train cars, checks of air conditioning within stations, operation of automatic rail watering devices, and prevention of heat-related illnesses at work sites. In particular, the corporation is operating the heatwave response situation room around the clock to immediately address cases of heat-related illness and facility damage.
The corporation is maintaining a pleasant environment inside train cars through regular sterilization and disinfection of air conditioning systems, and is operating air-conditioned waiting rooms at 22 ground-level station platforms. At stations without waiting rooms, large fans have been installed to minimize citizens' exposure to the heat.
Going forward, the corporation plans to expand the installation of customer waiting rooms to concourse areas. In particular, the waiting rooms to be set up at Bujeon Station and Jagalchi Station are expected to serve as rest areas for the elderly and vulnerable groups who are especially susceptible to the heat.
Lee Byungjin, President of Busan Transportation Corporation, stated, "With the heatwave arriving earlier than expected, on-site response has become more important than ever," and added, "We will thoroughly manage air conditioning, facility inspections, and emergency response so that citizens can use urban railways safely and conveniently even during the heatwave."
