Gangseo District Designates Four More Alley-type Shopping Districts to Boost Local Commercial Vitality
Expansion to a Total of Nine Locations Including Gonghang-dong Food Alley
Support for Onnuri Gift Certificate Affiliates and Commercial District Revitalization Projects
On July 9, Gangseo District in Seoul announced that it has designated four additional “Alley-type Shopping Districts” to revitalize local commercial areas. With this designation, the number of Alley-type Shopping Districts in Gangseo District has increased from five to nine, allowing neighborhood commercial zones that were previously outside the scope of policy support to now receive substantial assistance.
The newly designated locations are: Gonghang-dong Food Alley (near Gonghang-dong Community Service Center), Songjeong Station Cafe Street (near Exit 2 of Songjeong Station), Gonghang Alley Market (near Rose Park), and Gayang Station Intersection (across from Seoul Digital University).
An “Alley-type Shopping District” refers to an area of less than 2,000 square meters where at least 30 small business stores are clustered and a merchants’ association has been formed. Once designated by the local government, these areas become eligible for support equivalent to that provided to traditional markets. Benefits include the ability to register as an Onnuri Gift Certificate affiliate and participate in public projects for facility improvements and business modernization.
Each of the newly designated Alley-type Shopping Districts has its own unique characteristics. Gonghang-dong Food Alley offers not only restaurants but also a variety of entertainment venues such as karaoke rooms and billiard halls. Songjeong Station Cafe Street features stylish cafes and restaurants centered around the station area.
Gonghang Alley Market is a retail cluster with stationery stores, butcher shops, and other businesses closely tied to residents’ daily lives. Gayang Station Intersection is adjacent to schools and apartment complexes, with a high volume of foot traffic, giving it strong potential for commercial growth.
