According to the county on July 8, Cheongchon Senior Center (President Hong Gicheon) was selected as one of the 69 centers, which represent the top 0.1% out of 69,000 senior centers nationwide. In Jeollanam-do, only seven centers made the list, adding further significance.
The commemorative event held on July 7 was attended by about 50 people, including Hong Gicheon, president of the senior center, Park Youngdon, president of the Damyang-gun branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, Lee Gyuhyeon, Jeollanam-do council member, Noh Daehyeon, Damyang-gun council member, Choi Changgi, head of the agricultural cooperative, Im Seokgil, branch president, and local residents, who gathered to celebrate the selection as a national model senior center.
Hong Gicheon, president of the center, said, "It is a great honor to be selected as a national model senior center. I would like to thank everyone present here today and all the local residents. We will continue to unite and create an even more vibrant and energetic Cheongchon-ri Senior Association."
Jung Chulwon, mayor of Damyang-gun, stated, "We will share the case of Cheongchon Senior Center so that it can serve as a good example for other centers, and we will continue our efforts to enhance the pride of our seniors and the vitality of the senior centers."
