This inspection will target 16 public construction projects commissioned by Gwangju City, including the Sangmu~Cheomdan Road Construction and the Gwangju Main Library Construction. The inspection will comprehensively review site conditions to ensure workers can operate safely, including the operation of rest facilities, provision of bottled water, installation of cooling shelters, and installation of shade structures to mitigate the effects of the heatwave.
The city will particularly focus on checking compliance with the "Five Key Prevention Rules for Heat-Related Illnesses," which include installing shade structures, providing sufficient drinking water, ensuring rest breaks, requiring the use of protective equipment, and establishing emergency response systems. Gwangju City plans to continue strengthening safety management at public construction sites and to proactively respond to seasonal disasters such as heatwaves and typhoons.
Shin Jaeuk, Director of the General Construction Headquarters, emphasized, "As this summer is expected to bring record-breaking heatwaves, we will continue to prioritize the lives and safety of workers by strengthening safety management at construction sites. We will do our utmost to create a safe construction environment with accident-free, prevention-focused site inspections."
