Sunchang County Provides "Living Support Grants" for University Students
Up to 2 Million Won Per Student
Easing the Burden of Educational Expenses
Sunchang County in North Jeolla Province has provided living support grants for university students for the first half of 2025 through the Okcheon Scholarship Foundation.
According to the county on July 2, this living support grant was established to ease the financial burden of education for local university students, enabling them to focus on their studies in a stable environment.
Applications for the grant were accepted from May 1 to May 20, and among those who applied through the town and township administrative welfare centers, 495 students were ultimately selected as recipients. The county distributed a total of 895.5 million won in living support grants to these students, with each recipient receiving up to 2 million won.
The amount of support was determined based on the student's academic year, current enrollment status, and the region from which they graduated middle and high school. Students who graduated from elementary, middle, and high schools within the county received 2 million won each. Those who graduated from middle and high schools within the county received 1.5 million won, while graduates of high schools outside the county and those who passed the qualification exam each received 1 million won.
The county stated that the purpose of this support is to reduce educational disparities caused by family circumstances and to help local talent focus on their studies without financial burden.
County Governor Choi Youngil said, "We will spare no practical support to ensure that no one has to discontinue their studies for financial reasons," adding, "We will continue to implement a variety of policies to foster local talent in the future."
Meanwhile, the living support grant for university students for the second half of the year is scheduled to be provided between October and November, with detailed information to be announced later on the county office website and at each town and township administrative welfare center.
