Gijang County in Busan has officially registered the Jwagwangcheon stream as a local garden, marking the first time a basic local government in Busan has done so. To commemorate this, the county held a tree planting and plaque unveiling ceremony.
The event, held on June 28 at the plaza of the Jeonggwan Witgol Park, marks the starting point for Gijang County’s plan to operate its representative ecological stream, Jwagwangcheon, as a lifestyle-oriented garden.

The participants planted two pine trees together, wishing for the sustainable management of the Jwagwangcheon Garden and the prosperity of the local community. During the subsequent plaque unveiling ceremony, the official name of the Jwagwangcheon Garden was announced.
The Jwagwangcheon Garden is a space where the lives of county residents and nature are connected. Under the theme “An Emotional Garden to Experience Jwagwangcheon in Daily Life,” the garden is divided into four zones: Warmth, Benefit, Delight, and Longing. A total of 101 species and 510,000 individual plants have been planted throughout the area.
To promote garden culture, Gijang County plans to renovate themed gardens such as the Rose Garden, Azalea Garden, and Pinwheel Garden, and to operate hands-on programs as well.
County Mayor Jeong Jongbok stated, “Jwagwangcheon Garden serves as a resting place for residents and a core tourism resource for the region. We will develop it into a landmark that attracts tourists and revitalizes the local economy.”
