Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Suhyeon) announced that it will implement a large-scale organizational restructuring and regular personnel appointments on July 7, 2025, to proactively respond to the surging administrative demand caused by rapid population growth and urban expansion, and to strengthen its future strategic functions.
This restructuring will maintain the current "six bureaus and offices system" while focusing on readjusting functions among departments and enhancing work connectivity.
In particular, the reorganization was carried out with the aim of improving the quality of administrative services in areas with high citizen engagement.
Accordingly, some bureau and office names have been adjusted, and department placements have also been reorganized, taking into account the workload and policy connectivity among affiliated departments.
First, the existing "Balanced Development Bureau" will be abolished, and a new "Economic, Culture, and Sports Bureau" will be established, integrating functions closely related to citizens' daily lives?such as culture, sports, and the local economy?into a single pillar.
To address the increasing demand for urban infrastructure, a new "Construction Division" will be created, laying the foundation for more professional and systematic management of infrastructure development and construction administration required during urban development.
Additionally, the "Information and Communication Division" will be renamed and restructured as the "Smart Information Office," expanding its role beyond simple technical support to oversee policy planning and execution based on AI and big data.
There have also been changes in the welfare and education sectors.
In line with the government's policy to integrate early childhood education and care, childcare services will be transferred to the "Future Education Division," while family, women, and child-related services will be consolidated into the "Family and Child Division," thereby improving work connectivity and efficiency.
Furthermore, the sports function, previously under the "Education and Sports Division," will be reorganized into the "Youth and Sports Division" together with youth-related services, enabling the implementation of generation-specific policies.
To strengthen the administrative foundation for the local economy, the "Job and Economy Division" will be renamed the "Local Economy Division," allowing for a greater focus on supporting small businesses and revitalizing local commercial districts.
This restructuring was carried out without increasing the number of public officials (1,134 employees), and is characterized by improved organizational efficiency through the reallocation of department functions and personnel.
