Suwon City Launches Executive Council of International Sister Cities Citizens Exchange Committee
On June 26, Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province held a launch ceremony for the Executive Council of the International Sister Cities Citizens Exchange Committee at the Suwon Convention Center.
The Executive Council serves as an official consultation channel among the executives of the Citizens Exchange Committees from Suwon's seven international sister cities: Asahikawa in Japan, Jinan in China, Cluj-Napoca in Romania, Hai Duong in Vietnam, Freiburg in Germany, Phoenix in the United States, and Tours in France.

View original imageBased on close communication among the committees, the council will take the lead in Suwon's public diplomacy by jointly planning cultural events with sister cities, developing citizen participation programs, and providing policy proposals and advisory services.
A Suwon City official stated, "The launch of this Executive Council aims to create a synergy effect by uniting the exchange activities that each Citizens Exchange Committee had previously pursued individually," and added, "We will establish a sustainable international exchange model centered on citizens."

Suwon City has designated seven key partner cities out of its 20 international sister and friendship cities in 15 countries, and has established a Citizens Exchange Committee for each city. Citizens with expertise in fields such as economy, culture, sports, education, and environment are being appointed as committee members.
