On June 25, the Changwon Jungbu Police Station in Gyeongnam announced that they had apprehended a teenager, identified as A, on suspicion of theft and booked him without detention.
According to police, A stole cash from men's locker room lockers at indoor swimming pools in Changwon on four separate occasions between February 27 and April 14.
He stole locker keys from personal baskets inside the swimming pool, opened the lockers, and took approximately 2 million won in cash.
After a series of recent locker thefts at swimming pool changing rooms, police formed a dedicated investigation team, analyzed closed-circuit (CC) TV footage, and identified and apprehended the suspect.
The investigation revealed that A committed the crimes to obtain spending money, as he had no regular occupation.
A police official stated, "Public facilities such as indoor swimming pools always carry a risk of theft, and since these are spaces used by many people, valuables or large amounts of cash should not be brought in."
The official added, "Always keep your locker key on your person and pay close attention to your belongings. If you notice anyone acting suspiciously nearby, report it immediately to 112."
