Jungnang-gu Officially Certified as a UNICEF Child-Friendly City
Jungnang-gu in Seoul announced on the 23rd that it has officially obtained certification as a "Child-Friendly City (CFC)" from the Korean Committee for UNICEF this month.
A "Child-Friendly City" refers to a city that realizes the four fundamental rights of children specified in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child?namely, the right to survival, protection, development, and participation?and has policies, administration, and an environment in place that enable children under the age of 18 to grow up safely and happily.
Since 2022, the district has systematically established a foundation for child rights by enacting ordinances for the creation of a child-friendly city, securing dedicated personnel, conducting surveys on child-friendliness and citizen participation, identifying children's needs, forming a child policy participation group, providing education on children's rights, and developing creation strategies, thereby integrating children's rights into all aspects of administration.
This certification was granted after a rigorous process by the Korean Committee for UNICEF, including both document review and in-person evaluation. The certification period runs for four years, from June 5, 2025, to June 4, 2029. With this certification, the district will be entitled to use the UNICEF logo and receive a certification plaque, among other benefits.
The district plans to hold a "Child-Friendly City Certification Ceremony" at 5 p.m. on July 2 in the main auditorium of the district office. Taking this opportunity, Jungnang-gu aims to continuously develop a variety of policies to realize children's rights in everyday life and further enhance its status as "Jungnang, a city where children are happy."
