'One Year After Launch, Next-Generation System Faces Repeated Errors Every Tax Season'
Nearly 5,000 Complaint Calls Over Wetax Outage on the 12th

Since its launch in February last year, the 'Next-Generation Local Tax Revenue Information System' (hereinafter referred to as the next-generation system) has frequently experienced errors. There are growing calls for fundamental improvement measures, as certain functions continue to malfunction every tax payment season.
Recently, users have voiced increasing complaints about the inconvenience caused by document issuance errors on Wetax, the online payment portal connected to the next-generation system. Thousands of complaints have poured in, surpassing the volume seen at the initial launch.
According to data received by Bum Nam Yang, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Gwangju Seo-gu Eul, from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission on June 16, a total of 4,899 Wetax-related complaints were received at the Government Civil Service Call Center (110) in just one day, June 12, when the Wetax error occurred. This figure exceeds the daily average of 4,587 Wetax complaint consultations recorded during the initial launch period of the next-generation system from February 13 to 21 last year.
On that day, users experienced significant inconvenience as errors occurred in the issuance service for civil documents such as local tax payment certificates and tax payment confirmations on the Wetax website.
In fact, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on that day, hundreds of complaint calls were made every hour. Notably, between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., as many as 825 complaint calls were received. A large portion of these calls were protests about the Wetax error, with many users inquiring about when the system would be restored.
Yang emphasized, "It has been over a year since the next-generation local tax system was introduced, yet errors continue to recur. As this disrupts both the public and civil service operations, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety must thoroughly review the entire system and present fundamental improvement measures."
