Gwangju Mudeung Library to Launch Citizen Participation "Library School"
Training on Best Practices Analysis and Subsidy Management
for Small Library Operators and Volunteers
On June 16, Gwangju Municipal Mudeung Library announced that it will operate the "2025 Citizen Participation Library School" from June 19 to 26, targeting small library operators and volunteers. Small libraries are community spaces located throughout neighborhoods that provide not only reading opportunities but also a variety of cultural programs.
This training aims to help small libraries adapt to the changing reading culture environment and to promote active management. The program consists of a variety of educational sessions designed to revitalize small libraries, including analysis of exemplary management cases from other regions and training on the management of local government subsidies.
The main courses include: ▲ Promotion techniques and case studies for small libraries (Lee Sunmi, Director of Small Library Caru) ▲ The power to shape the community, small libraries (Kim Myunghee, Director of Yeoune Library) ▲ Training on the Botaeme system for small libraries (Jang Hyungyu, Secretary-General of Village Power Plant) ▲ A lecture by author Yoon Songhyun of "Everything Started at the Library," among others.
The training sessions will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on June 19 (Small Conference Room), June 24 (Main Conference Room), and June 26 (Small Conference Room). The number of participants is limited to 25 for June 19 and June 26, and 50 for June 24, with registration on a first-come, first-served basis. Those involved with small libraries who wish to participate can apply through the "Apply for Small Library Projects" section on the Gwangju City Representative Library website.
Song Kyunghee, Director of the Municipal Library, stated, "We will continue to provide ongoing support through various projects so that small libraries, which local residents can use, can be operated actively."
Meanwhile, since 2014, the Municipal Library has been promoting projects to revitalize small libraries, including touring art exhibitions, the Citizen Participation Library School, and support for Reading Month and Culture Month events.
