Man in His 70s Dies in Haenam House Fire...Arson Suspected
"House on Fire, Possible Arson" Reported
Fire Authorities: "Investigating the Exact Circumstances"
At around 3:10 a.m. on June 16, a fire broke out at a single-family house in Bukil-myeon, Haenam County, South Jeolla Province, resulting in the death of a man in his 70s, identified as Mr. A.
Immediately after the fire started, two other people who were inside the house evacuated on their own. The fire department deployed eight pieces of equipment and 22 personnel, and completely extinguished the fire by around 3:39 a.m.
The fire authorities are focusing on the fact that the initial caller stated, "The house is on fire. It seems like arson," and are presuming arson as the cause of the fire. In particular, they are considering the possibility that Mr. A may have committed arson himself, given that he was inside the house at the time of the fire despite not living there.
The fire department and the police are investigating the exact circumstances of the fire.
