Prosecutors Seek Suspended Sentence for Binggrae CEO Kim Donghwan over Assaulting Police Officer While Intoxicated
Prosecutors have requested a suspended prison sentence for Kim Donghwan, CEO of Binggrae, who is accused of assaulting a police officer while intoxicated.
On June 12, during the first trial of Kim's case for obstruction of official duties held at the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Appellate Division 2-1 (Presiding Judge Jung Sungkyun), prosecutors asked the court to sentence Kim to six months in prison, suspended for one year.
According to the prosecution, in June of last year, Kim was allegedly intoxicated and causing a disturbance at an apartment in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, when he assaulted a police officer who had responded to a resident's report.
Kim stated, "I have deeply regretted and reflected on my actions for over a year, and I sincerely apologize to everyone affected by this incident, including the police officer who experienced inconvenience. I will never make such a mistake again."
Previously, the court of first instance sentenced Kim to a fine of 5 million won, but the prosecution appealed, citing issues such as the inadequacy of the sentence.
