Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Cho Kwangdeok) immediately responded to a chemical leak accident involving sodium hypochlorite at a factory located at 982-11 Jingwan-ri, Jingun-eup, around 8:48 a.m. on the 9th.

View original imageUpon receiving the accident report, Namyangju City promptly activated a rapid cooperation system with relevant agencies, including the fire department, police, environment, and disaster departments, and urgently dispatched a total of 117 response personnel and 21 pieces of equipment.
Currently, contamination prevention measures are underway at the accident site to remove polluted water and block its inflow into stormwater drains and streams.
In addition, the city is continuously monitoring the pollution status of streams and stormwater drains around the factory in cooperation with relevant agencies such as the Han River Basin Environmental Office. Measures to prevent secondary damage, such as the recovery of wastewater, replacement of storage tanks, and the deployment of additional vehicles, are also being implemented in parallel.

Mayor Cho Kwangdeok of Namyangju City instructed, "We will prioritize the lives and safety of citizens and respond immediately to this chemical leak accident," adding, "We will thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident and work with relevant agencies to establish systematic safety management measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring."
