This re-designation is the result of Seongdong-gu’s distinctive education policies and experience-based learning being recognized externally.
In particular, major factors in the evaluation included the operation of the ‘Seongdong Future Education District,’ the establishment of the ‘AI and Future Technology Experience Center’ and the ‘Ai Sarang Complex Culture Center,’ and the operation of the ‘Global Experience Center’ and the ‘Admissions Counseling Center,’ all of which contributed to building a customized educational environment tailored to different stages of life.
During the special zone designation period (2015?2026), Seongdong-gu will invest a total of 304 billion KRW to continuously promote 22 detailed projects across four specialized areas: traditional history experience education, ecological and cultural experience education, future talent development education, and global citizenship competency enhancement education.
Representative projects include history and culture experience programs utilizing local assets such as Salgoji Bridge and Seongsu Handmade Shoes Street, as well as the ‘Taejo Lee Seonggye Festival.’ In addition, ecological and cultural experience opportunities that harmonize with nature have been established, such as the ‘Eungbongsan Forsythia Festival’ and the ‘Seoul Forest Summer Camping Site.’
Furthermore, Seongdong-gu is providing customized education at each stage of growth, centered on the ‘Seongdong Future Education District,’ the ‘AI and Future Technology Experience Center,’ and the ‘Ai Sarang Complex Culture Center,’ including youth career exploration, future technology experiences, and creative arts education for young children. The district is also strengthening its lifelong learning foundation with programs such as the ‘Dokseodang Humanities Academy,’ ‘Seongdong Citizen University,’ and ‘Special Lectures by Distinguished Figures,’ which are open to all generations. In addition, Seongdong-gu has been newly designated this year as a ‘Lifelong Learning City for People with Disabilities,’ expanding the inclusiveness and diversity of learning opportunities.
