Kim Ki Hyun: "Reflecting on Presidential Election Defeat... Will Humbly Accept Public Sentiment"
On Facebook: "People Power Party Must Change to Its Core"
"I Will Be a Small Grain to Help the Party Fulfill Its Role as an Opposition"
As President Lee Jaemyung begins his term as the 21st president, Ki Hyun Kim, a member of the People Power Party, stated, "I will humbly accept the stern message of public sentiment delivered by the people," adding, "I will start by reflecting on myself."
On June 4, Kim wrote on his Facebook account, "This is a solemn mandate that our party, the People Power Party, must change to its very core," expressing these thoughts.
He emphasized that no one, including himself, can be free from responsibility for the defeat, and stressed, "We must undertake a thorough and transformative innovation, with the determination to change everything if necessary."
Kim argued that it is necessary to reflect not only on martial law and impeachment, but also to look further back on the two and a half years of the Yoon Suk Yeol administration. He went on to say, "We must reconsider whether we lost our identity as a policy-oriented and governing party by being solely fixated on 'opposing Lee Jaemyung.' We must decisively break with the past where necessary, and boldly clear away what must be settled."

He added that although the public sentiment has delivered a stern message to the People Power Party, he hopes this does not mean an endorsement of a so-called 'Lee Jaemyung dictatorship,' reiterating, "I will start by reflecting on myself." He continued, "I will serve in a humble role, becoming a small grain that helps the People Power Party rise again and properly fulfill its role as a rational conservative opposition party."
