Jeonbuk Province Extends Application Period for 'Public Benefit Allowance for Farmers and Fishermen' Until June 13
600,000 Won for Single-Person Households...
To Be Distributed Before Chuseok
Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province will extend the application period for the 2025 Public Benefit Allowance for Farmers and Fishermen until June 13.
According to the province on June 4, the extension was implemented to accommodate farmers and fishermen who were unable to apply due to their busy farming schedules during the peak season. The province aims to ensure that all eligible farmers and fishermen in the region can apply without omission.
Additional applications can be submitted until June 13 at the community service centers (eup, myeon, or dong) corresponding to the applicant's registered address. Any inquiries regarding the application process can also be addressed at these centers.
Notably, starting this year, the eligibility for support has shifted from 'farming or fishing households' to 'individual farmers and fishermen.' As a result, young farmers and fishermen, as well as female farmers who farm together with their parents, can each receive the allowance individually.
In addition, to provide early support for newly settled farmers and fishermen in the province, the requirements have been relaxed. The period for maintaining both address registration and agricultural or fishery business registration has been reduced from the previous two years to one year.
The allowance will be provided based on the agricultural or fishery business entity: 600,000 won for single-person households; for households with two or more people, 300,000 won per person. For example, a three-person family will receive a total of 900,000 won. In other words, there is no limit to the number of beneficiaries according to the number of people engaged in farming or fishing. After the additional application period closes, the province plans to verify applicants' eligibility between June and August, and then distribute the allowance in September before Chuseok.
Choi Jaeyong, Director of the Agricultural Life and Livestock Industry Bureau of the province, stated, "The public benefit allowance is a form of social compensation for the public value of agriculture and fisheries, and it is a legitimate right. I urge those who missed the initial application due to the busy farming season to make sure to apply during this extended period."
He added, "The province will conduct prompt eligibility verification and administrative procedures to prevent any payment delays. We will continue to do our best to improve the quality of life for farmers and fishermen and to ensure sustainable agriculture and rural communities."
