On the morning of the 30th, he personally swam a 1-kilometer section from the southern end of the Jamsil underwater weir to the Ttukseom Water Safety Education Center to verify safety.
Seoul City announced that daily water quality inspections were conducted up until the day before the event. According to the World Triathlon Federation's 2006 standards, water is suitable for competition if it contains fewer than 1,000 E. coli and 400 enterococci per 100ml.
Before swimming, Mayor Oh held a banner with the phrase "The Han River's water quality amazes the world! Clean and safe! Meets international triathlon standards!" and promoted the clean water quality of the Han River to citizens as he toured the area. After completing the 1-kilometer section, Mayor Oh said, "The water quality of the Han River, which I personally swam across, is unbelievably clean, so please participate in the event with confidence and create unforgettable memories by swimming in the Han River yourself."
He added, "The Han River, a landmark of Seoul, boasts the highest level of water quality compared to any European city, including the Seine in Paris and the Thames in London. Going forward, we will continue to host a variety of festivals so that not only citizens but also foreigners can have unique experiences in the Han River, making it a representative and attractive space for Seoul."
