Taiwanese Man Arrested While Filming National Intelligence Service Headquarters
Police Determine Intentionality
A Taiwanese national was arrested by police on May 29 while filming the National Intelligence Service Headquarters.
According to police, the Industrial Technology Security Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is investigating a Taiwanese man in his 30s, identified as A, on suspicion of violating the Act on the Protection of Military Bases and Installations. At approximately 12:33 p.m. that day, A was apprehended by police near the main gate of the NIS in Naegok-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, while using his mobile phone to film inside the NIS premises.
The Seoul Seocho Police Station responded to a 112 emergency call reporting that "an outsider is filming inside the NIS" and arrested A, subsequently transferring him to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
Police believe there was intent behind A's actions, as he lingered in the vicinity of the NIS for a considerable period while filming inside the premises.
